The offering to the earth, or pago a la tierra, is a rite widely practiced in the Peruvian Andes. It takes place on the first day of August and continues throughout the year, because the farmers say that at this time Pachamama is thirsty and hungry and must be satisfied and nourished with the finest foods to give her strength and energy.
