Chonta Canyon – Flight of the Condor

About this tour

We will pick you up at your hotel at 7:00 am and drive towards the town of Limatambo, 2 hours from Cusco, from where we take the road to the village of Chonta. Along the way we will enjoy superb panoramic views and valleys full of crops framed by steep mountains, and we will also visit the following archaeological sites:

Killarumiyoc. A temple dedicated to the Moon (Mama Killa), a masterpiece sculpted from a single rock and surrounded by huge agricultural terraces. We then visit Tarawasi, a resting place for travelers on their way to Chinchaysuyo, built by Pachacútec with fine cellular-style stonework, before arriving in Limatambo. Continuing the tour, we travel to the community of Chonta, from where we hike for about an hour and a half to the Chonta Condor Lookout (horses optional). From 2:00 pm onwards the condors begin returning from their daily activities, and by then we will be ready to witness their majestic flight. We will see at least 10 condors, although there are more than 100 in the canyon, along with other bird species that share this habitat with them. At the end of the tour your guide will drop you off at your hotel in the Sacred Valley or in Cusco.
