A brief history of the South Valley
South of the city of Cusco lies the area known as the South Valley, a place of great importance in the development of the Inca Empire. It is the perfect route for travelers who want to experience archaeological sites and magnificent landscapes without the crowds and in a short amount of time. This territory was one of the first inhabited areas in the entire Cusco valley: the earliest people of the culture known as Marcavalle settled here around 1000 BC.
Our agency staff will pick you up at the agreed time and take you to our transport to begin the tour of Cusco's South Valley. We drive 40 minutes southeast to Tipón, which forms part of the Qhapaq Ñan Inca road network. We then continue to Pikillaqta, considered one of the most famous and best-preserved pre-Inca cities in Peru, and finish in the town of Andahuaylillas with its “Sistine Chapel of the Americas” and its impressive works of art. Finally we return to the city of Cusco at around 2:30 pm.
