Pallay Punchu, Apu Tacllo or Pallay Poncho Mountain is one of the newest tourist destinations in the Cusco region. It was discovered during the pandemic lockdown by a group of guides and local people, three hours from the city of Cusco in the district of Layo, on a mountain range rising to 4,791 m.a.s.l. It is a vast geological formation tinted in a variety of shades produced by a complex combination of minerals. Its slopes and summit stand out in several colors, including red, pink, purple, green and white, and from the top you can also admire the imposing Langui Layo lagoon.

Itinerary

Our agency guide will pick you up at 03:00 am to begin the journey of approximately two hours to the town of Cusipata, where we will enjoy a nutritious breakfast. We then continue on to Sicuani and afterwards to the district of Layo, in the province of Canas, where Pallay Poncho Mountain is located.
In Layo we will have time to visit the main square before continuing to the entrance of Pallay Poncho Mountain. From there we begin a hike of approximately 2 ½ hours up to the jagged ridge, whose colors, like those of the famous Rainbow Mountain, are the result of a complex combination of minerals and glacial sediments.
The weather on the mountain is dry and cold in the mornings; in the afternoon it becomes very windy and it may rain.
Throughout the tour we will enjoy beautiful landscapes and the area's biodiversity. Very close to Pallay Punchu Mountain lies the lovely Langui Layo lagoon, which makes the scenery spectacular and the destination especially attractive. After the visit we descend with our guide and return to the restaurant to enjoy a tasty lunch featuring the region's varied cuisine based on trout and alpaca.
Finally we return to the city of Cusco, arriving at around 7:00 pm.
